The Nebraska Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights will be hosting a web briefing to hear testimony regarding the civil rights implications of the Covid-19 pandemic on K-12 education in the state, with a focus on how disparately impacted communities navigated challenges related to mental health and e-learning. The Committee intends to provide the Commission with their findings and recommendations on these topics. The briefing will take place:

Committee Chair Nikitah Imani said, “For our fourth panel, our Committee seeks to hear testimony on how the pandemic impacted K-12 education and mental health in disparately impacted communities. The Committee finds it crucial to identify and address any gaps that exists in these areas and we look forward to hearing from diverse panelists on the lingering impacts on their communities.”
Committee Vice-Chair Edmund Hamann said, “The Nebraska Advisory Committee strongly believes in the importance of this study. The pandemic has exacerbated existing inequities in education and historically underserved communities. We welcome public comment and invite interested community members to attend and provide public comment or written testimony.”
Members of the public will be invited to speak during an open comment period towards the end of the panel. Members of the public are encouraged to share their experiences and perspectives of how the pandemic impacted education in the state.
