The Pennsylvania Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights has released a report following a series of public meetings on fair housing access and zoning practices in Pennsylvania. The Committee’s study focuses on examining the impact of zoning laws, municipal nuisance and crime-free housing ordinances, and related fair housing concerns on disparities based on race, color, disability status, national origin, age, religion, sex, and/or familial status.
To examine this issue, the Committee conducted seven virtual public meetings throughout 2022. The Committee invited testimony from the legal community, academics, advocacy organizations, and individuals. Based on the testimony offered at these meetings, the Committee prepared a report detailing its findings and recommendations for addressing the issues raised by speakers.
